The online application for the Regeneron Science Talent Search (Regeneron STS) is now open

The online application for the Regeneron Science Talent Search (Regeneron STS), sister competition to Regeneron ISEF, is now open through November 10, 2021!

As the nation’s oldest and most prestigious science research competition for high school seniors, Regeneron STS has identified and celebrated the scientific leaders of the future for over 80 years. Rising 12th-grade students (living in the U.S. or U.S. citizens living abroad) may share research they have conducted in any year of high school for the chance to win up to $250,000!

Learn more about the requirements here, and spread the word by sharing the bullet points below with the 12th-grade students, teachers, and science mentors in your network!

  • The Regeneron Science Talent Search 2022 application is now open! High school seniors with individual, original research projects are invited to apply online to the Regeneron STS. There are no limits to the number of students who can enter from any school, region, or state, and students may submit research from any year of high school. The program is completely free.
  • The top 300 scholars receive $2,000 each, and their schools also receive $2,000—that’s funding for STEM education in your community. Forty finalists will be invited to compete in the finals week competition. Every finalist receives at least $25,000 and if named in the top 10, could win between $40,000 and $250,000.
  • The application will close on Wednesday, November 10, 2021, at 8 pm ET, so we encourage interested students to open applications soon in order to receive tips and reminders.

BDEC TECH SUPPORT HOTLINE IS LIVE!

The Baltimore Digital Equity Coalition (BDEC) is working to close the digital divide in Baltimore City. In addition to working on initiatives to provide devices and connectivity to underserved residents, they are also providing technical support for residents who are new to getting online. This support is free.

The BDEC Tech Support Hotline is LIVE! Hours of operation are Monday through Friday, 10:00 am - 6:00 pm. The hotline is currently only available to adult learners (and staff) of Baltimore City-based workforce training and adult education programs.

THE PREDICAMENT: This 2020-21 school year is not like most. COVID-19 has caused schools to teach virtually instead of in-person, which has led to various new challenges for school-aged youth. Recent research on the academic and social/emotional impacts of the pandemic reveals that a large portion of school-aged young people have experienced increased levels of disconnectedness and social isolation, anxiety and general demotivation. With negative impacts like these, the need for quality mentoring has exacerbated.

THE SOLUTION: With this reality in mind, Maryland MENTOR has initiated the “500 Virtual Mentor Recruitment Challenge” campaign with the support of Thread, Big Brother Big Sister of Central Maryland, Community Youth Advance, Best Kids, and close to 50+ Mentoring and Out of School Time programs within Maryland and Washington D.C. This campaign has been possible by the support of Walmart, Under Armor, and other partners across the state. This campaign will provide mentoring programs with the opportunity to promote their program and obtain quality mentors. The goals of this challenge are to:

  • Highlight the fact that the need for adult volunteer mentors to support our state’s young people as they navigate unprecedented challenges has increased 
  • Support our area’s mentoring and after school programs, who have all but completely transitioned to virtual formats 
  • Recruit and train a critical flow of volunteers to these programs, helping adolescents receive the quality mentoring they deserve.
